Not everyone is comfortable bragging to friends. Not everyone in this "selfie" day and age is comfortable oversharing, believe it or not.

Only the owners of the home should get to "show off" the home, in whatever way they want to, to whomever they want to.

Plus, as a previous poster mentioned...it's not your house, not your accomplishment, not your news to brag about. Stop trying to take the shine from someone else's penny. Be proud as a parent, sure. ASK before you presume to take or share photos of someone else's house!

+1. Growing up, my mom would take pictures of every hotel room we stayed in when we traveled. We had to keep all our coats and suitcases out of the shot, no touching the beds until she was done.

Now I have a young kid and I do it too.

My inlaws did this too. Hotel rooms, condos, etc. No people in them. My DH still occasionally does this now. In the old days when photos cost money I used to try to curtail it, but now who cares. And we both take pictures of bathrooms and other design elements we like and might want to use somewhere.

The friends they clearly intend to show the photos to are not family!

Plus...it's not their house, not theirs to be proud of, not theirs to show off. Why are they acting like they own the house?!

One of my kids' projects in school was to take pictures of all the rooms in the house and create a powerpoint presentation of them, translated into French (for French class) and present it. NOW that was weird. I didn't appreciate that AT ALL. I also didn't know about it until after he did it, and the teacher commented to me about the size of our house...tacky, tacky, tacky.

OP here. I think that it's the fact that they took pictures of my personal space when I wasn't around and that they plan to show this personal space to others in a bragging manner that bugs me.

Like many things they do, however, I know it's a difference in boundaries and what we consider private/shareable - there's no bad intention.

I am a private person and I find it... uncouth (and yes I will get slammed I am sure for that word)... to brag about us using what I consider to be personal information/data/etc.... I don't really like the idea of people I don't know having access (even if it's just photographic) to my space esp when it's to evaluate me- even if it's a positive evaluation.

People flip about stuff like this and then wonder why they have bad relationships with their in-laws. It's something a lot of older people do to show the friends back home where the kids are living. And it's not a security issue for god's sake. People put pictures of their rooms up all the time, on social media, on real estate sites...

Any rooms are OFF LIMITS, if it is not your house. Are they paying the mortgage, OP? If not, call them on it, and tell them you don't do that in your house. Then proceed to take pics of their rooms, and see how they like it. Dimwits.

In DCUMlandia, all strange and negative behavior is attributable to Indians and Asians. Even their academic and financial success is a negative. So, I am shocked to read what you have written.

So, do Irish Catholics buy bedsheets that do not match the room decor? Do they show off? Do they invade the privacy of their children?

They're just proud and want to show to their friends. My mother would do this, and I think it's fine.

Yes how exactly is this a security issue? The layout of your house is not private, I'm sure it's in public records somewhere. Maybe if you have piles of cash laying around in the photos that could be a bad idea. Or your SS card laying out or maybe all your passwords up on white board in one room.
