I feel it should really be referred to as Hamsgiving, from here on out.

The topic clearly read Thanksgiving but why was kid with her/his dad without parent being there. Kid should have known better.

At thirteen he is closer to dating and sex than he is to diapers. I think by thirteen he should be old enough not to be tricked into eating ham by sneaky grandpa and also old enough to choose what to eat. Perhaps your son has different ideas on diet than you?

Kwanzaa starts 12/26.

BTW DCUMers, Kwanzaa is NOT a religious holiday. Mainstream AA Muslims don't celebrate it so pork at Kwanzaa is not an issue. Growing up, we always had pork in our greens on the last night of Kwanzaa. The last year I celebrated it, my aunt switched to smoke turkey wings because she doesn't really live us anymore.

Can you do an AMA on Kwanzaa? I'm very curious about this holiday and have never met anyone who celebrated.

We've celebrated it on and off for many years. I'd be happy to help with an AMA, OP, if you decide to post a thread on the topic. Hopefully, we can keep it fun and informative. The pp seemed genuine.

I'm AA and Jewish (and my Dad is Catholic), so I've celebrated it all!

It's a contrived "holiday." Not even Al Sharpton celebrates it, although Marion Barry used to bedeck himself in Kente cloth.

This is what I've read. Kwanzaa is entirely and American invention starting in the 1960s. The guy who founded Kwanzaa went to prison for torturing a woman a few years later.

If you're Jewish I can understand. But even if you're vegan, I think the son has a right to decide what he wants to eat and follow in his life.

Good Memphis Pork barbeque makes my mouth water.
