OP: don't approach the parents, that's just going to be awkward. Approach the teacher.
Sadly, I've had similar experiences to OP - on two different occasions - and both were safety issues. One student hit another out of the blue and for no reason. While I was driving and couldn't do anything about it. Second time, student started to run away from us on a street downtown DC.
