I know. I'm amazed Johnny is expected to wipe his own bum at school. I really think it's too much to ask. When I wanted to schedule a conference with his teacher to discuss, she seemed evasive.

To quote my favorite former boss, "Be a problem solver, not a blame assessor."
Don't worry about whose fault it was. Just focus on fixing the problem.
Try calling the photography company. Explain the situation and ask them to send you a new set of photos via mail. I'm not sure they'll do it, of course, but it can't hurt to try.
This is also a great opportunity to model problem solving for your child. Yes, sh!t happens. Even with the best of intentions, we still make mistakes. When that happens, we figure out how to fix things. Sometimes it's an apology. Sometimes it's learning how to do it differently next time. And sometimes it's just plain figuring out a fix. Hopefully requesting a new set of photos will be that fix for you.

Strange. My oldest (4th grade) is as sloppy as they come---homework, artwork, etc crumpled up--but never had it happen with his school photos. They came home in backpack in perfect shape and no idea how he managed that feat. He did say he looked good--maybe he took extra care

I'd blame mom for not teaching kids that special or fragile things you don't want bent must be treated with extra care. But really, after too many (ok, 1 in 100) framable art projects came home rolled up and bent, I taught the kids to keep that stuff flat and out of their backpacks if necessary. This is so stupid. The kid is 7 years old, you can teach them a million things, they forget, they are distracted. Blaming the mom is akin to blaming the teacher, absolutely ridiculous. My children's pictures always come with a cardboard backing so they don't bend. A company specializing in school pictures should be aware that 6, 7, and 8 year olds are bringing home the pictures in a backpack. OP, I would call the company and, VERY NICELY, explain what happened. I'm sure they will be ok with sending the pics again.
