My Indian American Dh was not allowed on our flight back home with our kids and I from California because he lost his Driver's License while there, they had to run a bunch of checks and he got on the next flight back.
He also 99% of the time get's pulled for the "random" extra security screening.
I'm also Indian American but get much less slack since I'm female. I feel sad for the crap my two sons will have to deal with as they get older.
Op- The DMV will send you an electronic copy of your driver's license that you can print and take with you.

No, it is a fact and has also been addressed legally with the TSA with regards to racial profiling of 'brown' skinned people while flying.
Have you been pulled for screening nearly every time of the over 80 flights you've taken since 9/11? You are being willfully ignorant. This is not a political point, this is about understanding what goes on outside of your bubble.

I have done this. If you can, bring something with your mailing address (Prescription bottle, piece of mail) and some type of picture ID (even a work badge). If you bring your expired passport, I think it would help. Be prepared for extra screening. Leave time bc it did take about 2x as long.

A different PP and I agree that you are just willfully ignorant. While it is true that all races are subject to extra scrutiny, they do so by sampling. They do a few of this group here, a few there and so on. However certain demographic groups are sampled at far greater percentages than others. So while they may sample 0.5-1% of whites, they sample 4-5% of blacks or Latinos. When Caucasians are over 50% of the flying public and blacks are about 20% of the flying public, the fact that more blacks are sampled than whites is an issue. So, just because you as a middle aged white woman have been pulled over for extra screening does not counter the argument that minorities, most specifically blacks and Latinos, are sampled at far greater percentages.
Part of the reason that this type of racism and stereotyping of blacks and Latinos as more untrustworthy and needing greater scrutiny is hard to fight is the attitude from many like you who willfully ignore and debate that the problem exists.

Regardless of the color of your skin, you will be allowed to fly without ID.
You'll just need to go through a ton of checks and that will take extra time. Bring whatever ID you have, leave lots of extra time, and pack your patience.
The Indian father up thread didn't miss his flight because he was Indian, because anyone flying without ID is subject to a ton of extra security screening which takes time. And note, of course, that he WAS able to fly without ID, even if it was on the next flight not the original one.

Lost my driver's license. DC DMV closed Mondays. Flight is early Tuesday. TSA web site says you "may" be able to fly. My passport is expired. Has anyone pulled this off? Thanks.

I did it Thanksgiving weekend of all times. Wallet fell out of my bag before leaving for airport, so I had NOTHING on me, which I discovered just before getting in security line. My husband had some insurance cards with my name. They did extra pat-down screening on me, and had to clear it w/ a TSA supervisor which involved some extra waiting. If you have a few items w/ your name on it, and preferably something w/ a picture, you will probably be fine but be prepared for extra screening and time.

Happened to me. White female traveling with two AA guy friends. I have lost my ID before so my friends have experience talking me in to places and one friend in particular is a good smooth talker. TSA agent rolled her eyes at me in Baltimore and let me through no issue. Coming back in Miami they gave me a hard time, got an extra pat down, luggage check, questions, etc but they eventually let me through. I told a friend of mine who works for TSA at a high level and she was horrified!!

I did this recently at Dulles, Sacramento, and Raleigh airports. Bring all the ID you have - check books, credit cards, business card, anything with a picture. The Dulles process added at least 45 mins because I had to wait for a manager and then do an extremely thorough screening of all my belongings. On the plus side I got to jump the whole security line. Took much less time in the smaller airports.
