As an child and even as an adult taking my DD trick or treating, the full size candy bars are the best. Jackpot!!!!

I know you don't put much thought into anything; you completely missed the point of the thread.

Definitely the full-size candy bars and cans of pop. My parents only bought pop at Christmas, Thanksgiving and birthdays, so it was always such a treat to be given any.

My kids would absolutely appreciate the homemade toy like PP's elderly neighbor did.

We do bags. Word must get around because every year the number of kids coming to our home has doubled. We live far out from the city, almost rural.

I liked getting quarters, full size anything and Halloween pencils. My MIL used to get mobbed for her popcorn balls. Kind of weird seeing store bought ones. I have to say I think my MIL made THE best popcorn balls. They tasted like cracker jacks only fresher and big softball sized. My husband would call her up and tell her to set aside 4 for him.

I miss those days.

Thinking about last year and how many bags we gave out and the cost of candy, I could very well give a dollar this year to every kid and come out about even. 45 bags last year, candy cost $47.

We don't have to buy that much candy but what's the point being stingy ? All the kids say WOW, they have bags ! It's so cute.

Bubble Yum. For me, that got eaten while we were sorting the candy. In the days of contaminated Tylenol and rumors of razor blades in apples, homemade stuff was thrown out at our house.

Fun size candies were next, the last left overs for us were cinnamon hard candies and tootsie rolls. BORING!

The way it was explained to me (by a mom who adopted 2 girls from China... one with horrible teeth and one with "decent" teeth), their dentist recommends chocolate as their candy. The chocolate doesn't stick to the teeth the same way that things like Laffy Taffy, candy corn, and gummies do. So chocolate is "better" for your teeth!

It's true, anything hard candy that sticks to your teeth, so much worse than anything else sugary.

I always got really excited when someone handed out those candy necklaces. I thought they were so much fun to eat! I also loved Nerds and Rolos.

Halloween treats ranked:

- Cash
- Full sized "good" chocolate (Snickers, Hershey Bars, Reese's, M&Ms, etc)
- snack sized "good" chocolate
- good non-chocolate candy (twizzlers, starbursts, skittles, etc)
- half dollars or quarters
- "ok" non-chocolate candy (blow pops, dumdum lollipops, smarties, tootsie rolls)
- weird or generic chocolate
- non-candy snacks (cheez-its, etc)
- gross hard candy. those weird balls wrapped in cellphane, stuff that looks like it was in a jar by the register at a restaurant
- plastic spider and pumpkin rings
- giving out stuff because you want to be preachy - "find jesus" bracelets/quotes/coins/verses/etc, toothbrushes,

LOL, smart man. Building up business.

Hilarious! My dentist father made sure toothbrushes were given alongside the candy.

Reeces PB cups are my fav - but chocolate anything was pretty good. The houses that gave tootsie rolls and charleston chews were disappointing. For us - it was more about volume than anything else. How much could you collect by the end of the night, how many houses could you hit.

YYASSSSSS! I'm pretty sure that if someone gave one of those to me today, I'd say, "Wtf is this? Make with the Skittles, sweetheart." ...but back then they were OMFG wonderful.

I remember those! I liked the ones with fake smoke. Each cigarette had a paper wrap around it. If you blew into the end, a puff of powdered sugar came out the other side.
