I think it is true, but not US News' intention. This is because they used the database in English.

All of the existing global rankings are in some way following the example setup by the first one: the prestigious Shanghai Rankings (ARWU). Among these rankings, Shanghai Rankings are not biased to Chinese universities (they even didn't rank any Chinese university in top 100), and this US News Global Rankings are not biased towards the US institutions. However, both rankings tables from UK (QS and THE) are heavily biased in favor of British schools. This conclusion is the result of a study by a British professor.

.
Don't know. But no sensible person would argue that Ohio State, Washington, or Wisconsin are "better" than UVa.

Both Washington and Wisconsin are significantly better schools than UVa for a bio major.

Not sure about Ohio State but Washing and Wisconsin are certainly equal or better than UVA overall (especially outside of VA and in other countries).

Sorry you didn't get in.

I got into a better one.

Colleges certainly seem to pay attention to rankings. Didn't some schools try to manipulate these rankings by submitting false/misleading data?

You are right. Both private schools (such as Northeastern, WUSTL and University of Southern California) and public ones (such as Clemson). I heard Rice is an honest school and they complained WUSTL.

William and Mary is sui generis. It is what it says it is: the best small public university in the country.

Apparently, there is not much research going on there and people in other countries have not heard of it.

Not disagreeing. It offers very few doctoral programs and essentially is a liberal arts school with a law school.
