You want a justification to break up because you are afraid that he (or others) will call you a bitch or make you look like the "bad guy". Who cares what he or others think?! Do what you know is right for YOU.

I spent years in an emotionally/verbally abusive relationship, and your BF's comments are exactly the kind of thing I heard. There is no excuse to comment negatively on your appearance ever.

This kind of abuse slowly corrodes our self-perception and sense of power. Please get out now. Don't waste any energy explaining why you are breaking up. No need to discuss with him or your mutual friends. A simple , "it wasn't working out for me..." is all the time and energy you need to spend on him.

Then get yourself to a therapist. You really need to understand why you stayed this long.
