My husband, who notices when people are put together and generally is kind if jovial, worked in a pretty casual
Atmosphere for a long time, people joked, were close etc. At a new job, a year in, he complimented a woman an her dress, " that's a great dress!" He doesn't find her attractive etc but he got a stern sexual harassment warning. He was baffled and humiliated and freaked out that people thought he was an old creepy guy etc. I told him you can never ever make a comment about someone's appearance. I find it extreme but there you have it.

Is this a straight guy complimenting a straight woman? If yes, he's flirting.

I am a woman who works in a male dominated field. I love when they compliment me on the way I look or lightly flirt with me. It's all fun, nothing creepy about that.

I'm a guy and women always compliment me on the dress shirts I wear - they're tailored, interesting designs and colours.

I should've sued all of them for harassment.

I guess the only safe thing for a man to do is to tell every women "God you look like such a sad sack of shit today." That way they won't be accused of flirting. Although half the women here will probably come to that conclusion anyway.

Was it "That is a cute sweater" or an actual "Damn...That sweater looks so hot on you, it really accentuates your figure..."??

I have a mid 50s male coworker who is married, has four step daughters and out office happens to be all women except for two people. Yesterday I heard him complimenting someone's hair. He isn't creepy at all but his life is dominated by women and we compliment, so does he.

Society (or perhaps just the women of DCUM) have gone bat shit crazy. Sometimes a compliment is just a compliment. Don't be so full of yourself, and while you are at it, put on your big girl panties.

Heck, blame the guys who love to come on DCUM and spout off about how men only want to talk to women for the chance to have sex- that that's all that matters to them. That ALL men see ALL attractive women in a sexual way and have imagined them as such.

It's not ALL men- but the vast majority of women have gone through this. And we're sick of it.
