Op! Such a happy ending to this. Hard to believe that only last night we were wondering if toady would make it through the night. Seems as though you have found a new calling. I think you will make an amazing volunteer. I'll bet Toady does, too!

So when I brought it in to the wildlife refuge they told me to fill out a form and drop it off and they would let me know the "outcome status" in several months. I had decided that I wanted to help getting him back out in the wild, or with taking care of him, since I was the one who caused it.

So I went out to my car, and seriously debated whether I should just drive away (like a normal person) or make an issue of it.

Eventually, I decided that I wanted to speak to them, and if necessary give it to a wildlife refuge where it wouldn't just be "assigned a number" and where I wouldn't told whether it lived or died for months.

I went in and politely asked them, and they asked me if I wanted to say goodbye. I said sure, and was working up the courage to tell them I wanted the toad back (so I could take it to the other animal hospital).

The toad handler lady came out and she said that actually it wasn't that hurt, that their plan would be to just release it into the wild with no care.

I questioned them to make sure, that they werent just telling me that.

Anyway, long story short, I drove two hours into a forest (there arent many in my area- I live in a western city) and found a quiet, woody area like they had described to me. I said my goodbyes to Toady and released him. He isn't hopping perfectly, but according to them it will be enough.




Also, as I was leaving, they told me that if I was so sentimental about this toad that I should volunteer to work at the animal rescue center. So I made an appointment and this Saturday I will be going in for training! So i guess there is a happy ending all around. I just hope Toady is alright and happy now.

How would being heartless to a small animal help the Syrian refugees. If I had to bet money on it, people like Op will do more than their fair share to help those people. It really is possible to take care of all God's creatures - great and small.
