I have a 7 y/o second grader who loves baseball. He is U8 right now. The other day he asked me if he could play travel baseball. I think he should wait until he is older though?! What age seems like a good time to start?

I actually wish some of the dads would be quiet and just go away, but i suppose that's sports in general. Anyways, my child loves baseball and is very interested in learning more and practicing a lot. The LL practices were haphazard and I think the travel team at least surrounds him with kids who feel similarly about the sport. It's obviously more expensive than LL but you get what you pay for.

Same here - are our kids on the same team? Our coaches are awesome!!! Uniform color?

Daddyball is everywhere. Even when they hire nonDad coaches in travel, some Dad worms his way into the dugout. High school has been different - finally.

My son's 13U travel baseball team just announced there would be try outs for the spring (tryouts held in another couple weeks) and all kids will need to re-compete for their spots. Surprise! It didn't give us much time to look at other options in case he is cut. Since spring tryouts are happening this month we will have to scramble to be sure kid ends up SOMEWHERE. He loves baseball, and going back to rec league would be sad for him. He wants serious and competitive but not cut throat. A good group of kids with solid coaching is more important than how much they win.

Any team recommendations? We are in the Columbia/Olney/Laurel/Silver Spring area.
