HFASD, 4y5mos. I tried right at 4 yrs and he wasn't having it. A few months later, he got it very quickly. We've had some BM regression this month, but a lot of things have regressed since ESY ended on the 13th. I have pull ups for him to sleep in, but he's been waking up dry for over a year so lately I've left him in underwear for overnight.

Toileting issues go in the self-care section of the IEP. They have to accommodate.


My kid gets to use the teacher's potty not the kids' bathroom as a way to encourage him to use the potty at school and not hold it all.day.long. Not going to change this accommodation in his IEP anytime soon and he has been potty trained for yrs.

Also, many kids we've known would get trained at home but hated going in public restrooms b/c they were so noisy. Headphones to block the noise helped.

I second the suggestion about iPad /distraction for anxiety related potty issues. It was the only thing that worked. That and breathing exercises and lots of positive mantras etc.
