Here's one for my fellow poors. 9, 6 and 2. We spent 1 week at Douthat State Park. It was OK, at least the price was right. Only vacation for the year.

Here's the deal, since you seem too dense to get it: A lot of people on this forum make a lot of money. We come on here to talk to similarly situated people; if you don't make a lot of money, I'm sorry, that's unfortunate, but go away if the discussion bothers you. No one is "bragging" on an anonymous forum.

Kids are 5.5 and 2. We live in S.FL. Did three days in Orlando (spent most of our time at the pool. went to Legoland on one day).

6 and we did 2 weeks in Seattle and Victoria, lots of fun. At 5 we did a road trip to Niagara Falls and it was good timing.

Son is eight- ADHD. We went to Lake Tahoe- we've done fancier trips, but this was by far the best family vacation we've had. DS got plenty of sleep, good food, and a lot of activity. 99% relaxing for all of us.

Looking for inspiration for a winter trip and next summer but haven't landed on ideas yet. Has anyone done a vancouver trip during the summer? How was it? Where did you go? Thinking about Europe too but cost of flights for a family of 4 seems prohibitive.

We just spent 4 nights in Vancouver, pre Alaska cruise with kids 7 and 11. It was great! We rented an AWESOME apartment in Coal Harbour area, (felt very safe) rode bikes around Stanley park, went to Grouse Mtn and Capilano, Granville Island, and Science Museum. There are loads of other museums if you like that sort of thing, an aquarium, and of course you could spend a day or two at Whistler (wish we had more time there to do this). That being said, the cruise (Vancouver to Alaska) was great and kids loved it as well. After the cruise we flew to Seattle and spent 5 nights there. It was fine, but we preferred Vancouver and Alaska. Great vacation.

I started it and didn't even give an answer. I really want ideas, and certainly won't be going on a 12 hour flight for 2 weeks with a nanny. I am more in the realm of a national park these days. I knew there would be humblebragging as well as just factual statements from people who have more vacation time and money than I do, but I figured there would be some useful tidbits too, which there are.

For the summer we visited relatives in CA (generally hanging out, visited a water park, weekend at a national park) for a week and had a bunch of weekend trips -- Virginia Beach weekend with ILs, family wedding weekend in Minnesota, camping and visiting amusement park in PA, we'll be at a family camp for Labor Day weekend.

It was a good summer. While we didn't have any especially exciting long trips, both kids also did a sleep-away week and I liked that we had a variety of weekend trips throughout the summer.

Going to California for a week from DC isn't a big trip?

It doesn't feel like a "big trip" to us because we go there every summer to hang out at my parents' house. It's relaxing but different than a more touristy trip to someplace we've never been.
