OMG. My mom will start worrying about this in September. The entire family would totally agree to do something other than Turkey (1/3 of the family is vegan), but she is determined to have her set turkey dinner, along with all the trimmings. Trimmings meaning the cursing, banging and complaining in the kitchen.

Go vegan. A pound of dry beans is less expensive and will make about 6 cups cooked.

Yes, and HOAs across the region LOVE residents keeping chickens in their yards!

I typically spend $4-5 for a dozen eggs, but get them from local farmers. They havent been as affected by the bird flu as in the Midwest, and you can ask about how the chickens are raised if that's important to you. I prefer free range, cage free eggs and figure in the grand scheme of things eggs are still a pretty low cost quality protein.

That's it!? In SoCal it's 5.50 a dozen. Terrible.

Mine too-- family of five.

Ok great. I'd think you'd be aware that everything is going to be more expensive to feed 5 mouths instead of 3.5 . A pound of chicken probably doesn't suffice for you for dinner, but it does for my family. Going to consider about that as well?

Oops, meant going to complain about that as well?

Interestingly drug stores like CVS and Walgreens have been running specials at less than$2 per dozen. It pays to read those ads.

I can handle the high price, I'm more frustrated at the shortage problem. I go to buy eggs or egg whites and they are often out now. Apparently the price is not too high- or there would be some left : )
