+1 to this! We're also at a Tier 2 school that doesn't start until 9:25 and the earliest we can drop off is 9:10.

I agree with one of the other PPs. Drop your kid off a few blocks away from school and just have her walk over if that's possible. Or else, I think it's fine if you drop the kid off early. We have some benches in front of our school, right by the steps and kids do hang out there. Especially a 4th grader. How is the school going to punish this?

Are the crossing guards there early enough? Go with her a few days and see what it's like? Our guards get there early enough that I could probably drop my kid off around 9, but we'll see how next week goes.

Here is a novel concept, OP. You ask a neighbor or another parent to take your child to school on time. Then you repay this person with doing them a good turn. Barter services if you cannot reciprocate in the same manner.

Another thing is that you tell your boss that the timing of the schools have changed. You will not be the only employee with kids in MCPS.

If the new time is an inconvenience and you need help from other parents - then get on your school's listserv and ask other parents for solutions.

Our school said you can drop off starting at 9:15. Is yours really open at 8:45?

Don't pay attention to nasty comments. You know your child the best- go with her a little early for the first week, usually the office staff is inside even if doors are locked. See how many other parents are there and make friends with them to see how much help can be exchanged so that you could make it to your work on time. By October, make your girl do the best essay on why she would like to be a patrol as patrols are supposed to come early and are allowed inside the school while doors are still closed.

I'm a teacher and the bell time changes mean I now pay $1000 total for before and aftercare. Previously, I only needed before care.
