As someone who suffered horribly from acne starting at a very young age (9), and took three courses of accutane to finally be satisfied with my skin, take your kid to the dermatologist ASAP and start working on a treatment plan.

I'm 28 now, and still get the occasional breakout, but nothing like before. I've been using the Olay Fresh Effects Acne Hater scrub with my clarisonic Mia and it's really helped me maintain clean skin. I can't say enough good things about my Clarisonic. It's a lifesaver.

Yes, my derm said to cut out sugar, chocolate, and dairy to help with hormonal acne.

Also agree with cetaphil cleanser. Using a gentle cleanser helps the skin stay balanced. Too dry and the skin will step up oil production.

Cut back on sugar if possible. Sugar does mess with hormones and contributes to acne.

This.

And I ate a pretty healthy diet before, homemade bread and pasta sauce, drinking only water, hardly any junk food. Eliminating wheat was the key for me and whenever I give into a craving, I wake up the next day with a severely oily face and breakouts.

If the acne is cystic, no diet changes or topical "remedies" are going to touch it. Cystic acne calls for accutane. I don't know if OP's child has this kind of acne, but both of mine did and everything else was a complete waste of time. The only thing that finally got rid of this kind of acne was accutane.

no connection, dumb ass

Actually yes there is.
There is a correlation between diet and kin issues just as their is between diet and many illness. Food us medicine.

I can't believe I am writing this but after 3 years of going to the derm (tried 2 different ones) and multiple medications that didn't work, we got desperate and tried proactive. It solved my son's acne problem very quickly.

See the derm, definitely. Mine told me that it's much harder to clear up acne the longer it goes/worse it gets. I wish I'd started as a pre-teen.
