Yeah, I like how you inserted "I've been to half of these in". Go on clutching your pearls. I for one am enjoying the restaurant recommendations and storing it away for future reference.

Why is it pretentious? I'd venture that most of these were special occasions

I'd like to know why too. The subject about a fantastic restaurant experience, not exactly an everyday occurrence.

Fulton's Crab House in Orlando (yes, Downtown Disney). I think this one stands out to me because dh & I were new parents with a 7 month old. We had just done CIO a few weeks before our trip to Disney and the baby was sleeping through the night (finally!). One evening we went into Downtown Disney, walked the baby around and he konked out right at his bedtime. We went to Fulton's and enjoyed a meal of stone crab claws and king crab legs and even wine. The baby slept through the entire meal and it just felt sooo....decadent to be able to have a grown up meal together at a decent restaurant.

Marmalade in Old San Juan. Only time I've ever done a multi course wine pairing.

Cyrus in Sonoma, currently closed and looking for a new location. Close second would be Manresa in Los Gatos.

Actually was not as impressed by Joel Robuchon in Vegas. While technically one of the most amazing meals I've ever had, flavors just didn't impress me.

Are you suggesting your steak was brought to your table alive before your meal? Cause I'm calling bullshit on that.

We ate there as well but I was not as impressed as I thought. Mostly with the food.

We did Tour D'argent which overlooks the Seine and Notre Dame and THAT was an amazing experience. Try it next time!

It was the experience we remember at the Eiffel Tower more than the food - especially the U.S. congressman in the middle of the room jealous of our window seat!

Jealous. Would love to go there sometime. Off topic but there is a great documentary called Spinning Plates and Alinea is one of the restaurants featured. Amazing!
