Boy. This post really tested me. I'm think I'm a fairly open- minded and liberal individual. My parents are the children of hard workin immigrants. I like to think I'm progressive in my thinking. Yet, I read this post, and my immediate reaction was -" then get the f@ck out"!

How recent are we talking? It's actually quite normal to feel anger while adjusting to new surroundings.

DH's job moved us out of the US and at our orientation briefing, we were actually given a chart similar to the following and told it's normal and to expect it.

It is quite probable that if OP will try and get rid of her ILs, then her DH will end his relationship with her.

"It seems to me that this American immigant thing is not working for you. You deserve to be happy. Let us help you find a country where you can have what you want. We will buy you tickets and come visit regularly. We truly only want you to be happy!"

Do they hate Americans? Or their anger directed towards White Americans?

Because there are lots of groups that are Americans. White Americans, African Americans, Asian Americans etc.

There is often antagonism exhibited towards various ethnic groups by all groups of Americans. So, essentially your ILs are behaving like Americans.

Why do they live with you? Are they babysitting or helping at home?

That you are supporting them probably doesn't feel great if they are used and could be supporting themselves. They probably really do need to go back. I don't understand people who emigrate so late in life.

My parents and ILs never wanted to spend more than a few weeks in the U.S. They have friends property jobs everything overseas. Me and my siblings begged my father to move in with any of us after our mom died. All he agreed to was to visit the U.S. once for three weeks. And this was man very his close to his children.

Yeah. It's not about America, it's about them. They are unhappy and they blame America for that (not everyone is capable of self-reflection). I am sure they talk shit about own country and praise America to their family at home.
