Sometimes you just know. I had a hunch around 3, and then as a teen I thought maybe transgender, but now in college he's comfortable and happy being gay. He was a very feminine child, even more so than his sisters. We did end up getting help because he was anxious and unhappy in his early teens, and faced bullying at school. All my love, adoration, acceptance couldn't protect him completely from his questions, doubts, and fears. I'd err on the side of getting whatever help you think you need -- it doesn't mean you are labeling him. It just means you're trying to do your best for your kid.
