I've got one kid with green hair - DS and one with an Abby Wambach cut - DD. they look great, love the attention they get and wear it proudly. Sounds like your DD wanted to set herself apart a bit from her crowd. Good for her that she is confident enough to do it. I bet she looks great.

Due to recent lifestyle changes, she probably felt the need to do something that she could control by herself. A pixie cut is a fresh, independent start. Your daughter sounds cool!

Please let us know how cute it is.

Why would you do this? It's only hair, and it's her hair. I don't understand your strong feelings of control over someone else's hair.

Maybe because I'm 33 and my mother won't let me cut my hair more then 1.5 inches 3 times per year on November 1st, March 1st and July 1st. I have very long hair just once I'd like to cut it maybe 5 inches but I cant. Why should a child get to do something I cant. Yes I'm a bitter bitch.

But a pixie cut I'd flip out on her, the crazy in me would come out full on American psyco

I'm not trying to be mean, but honestly you need some serious therapy and to set some boundaries with your mom. This is incredibly unhealthy and I'm really concerned that you are passing on this toxic relationship to your own daughter. Seriously-- for her sake, you need to find some way to move past this.

I don't have children

Thank God for that! Still - get help, PP.

You have posted on this board before. Your mom lives across the country, you don't *have* to let her control you.

I get a bug in my butt every 5 to 7 years and get a pixie. I'm way past the age of rebellion. Sometimes you just want a new look. My Grandmother used to dye her hair purple.

I love your grandmother! That is the kind of grandmother/old lady I intend to be!!

OP here and thank you for the reassurances. I will be seeing my daughter next weekend. We do have a good relationship but this has been a year of so many transitions for her as well as for me.

I have no vested interest in her staying with ballet and hope she doesn't try to pursue it as a career. She did break up with her boyfriend but before we left Europe so not recently and she wasn't involved that into him. I do, however, know she misses her friends and I am sure she feels the loss in knowing she won't see them in September. I am sure the thought of starting a new high school is affecting her as well.

I will keep talking and definitely keep a close eye on her.

Thank you for the advice, Friends.

You're kidding, right? It is her hair. It re-grows. If you're concerned about appearances and impact on her success, consider how it might actually help her get noticed.

I might however go up there, visit privately to verify she is OK (no depression, abuse, relationship issues), and leave her with a "code word" she could use via phone or text that signals she needs to extricate herself from the school pronto.

And you are clinically insane. You know that, right?
