I moved here with no savings, after quitting a 10k a year job. After a lot of struggle, scrimping and saving, I am BUYING A HOUSE. I never thought I would have the finances to do this. So excited.

I grew up in a trailer park. I started a business when I was 26. I sold it last year for $113MM. I'm 44.

I'm sure people wonder how we manage to live in our expensive neighborhood, and travel internationally every year. DH doesn't have a high-paying job, and I stay home.
What they don't know is that DH invested his pennies wisely years ago and we receive dividends each quarter to pay the mortgage, etc.

Am about to finish paying off the $11,000 in student loans that got me through an Ivy League education that included an entire year abroad (summer too).

Everything else, including living expenses, was paid for by grants, scholarships, and the few thousand bucks/year that I made during summer months and the 10 hour a week work-study job that I had freshman, sophomore, and senior year (I didn't work at all during the year abroad). My parents didn't pay a dime for my education or room & board or any of the travel that I did while studying in Europe.

Sure, I'm a single Mom that just a few years ago was assaulted by my child's father. I had nearly 70K in legal bills over 2 years.

I am now credit card debt free and have 40K in savings. Moved us into a townhouse in one of the best school districts in the area. We take multiple international trips a year and am in a relationship with a wonderful, non-abusive man. I am so very grateful to be where I am today.

I'm a SAHM. If DH left us and absconded with every penny of his, the kids and I would still be perfectly fine financially--thanks to early savings (while I worked) and a totally unluxurios lifestyle.

We live on DHs salary but I still work because I enjoy it

We are ... comfortable.
