GO to a state park in Central Washington (state). By July they usually have a burn ban in place.

We live in Columbia Heights, where the fireworks are a week-long issue. It's better than in 2007, when they started Memorial Day weekend and ended after Labor Day. Since then, we board our dog at a fairly rural place out in Maryland (Shady Spring, and they swear there aren't any nearby fireworks displays that can be heard from the kennel). Some years, we've gone out of town; others, we've stayed in hotels in DC for the 4th. Georgetown is a good bet, as is the West End and Dupont--no fireworks until 3am there. Plus, you can walk to the waterfront, watch the display, and walk back to the hotel without getting stuck in loads of traffic. I hate the neighborhood displays but have given up complaining and just get us all to a quieter place.

I camped last year at a state park in Maryland. Did not hear a thing.

I grew up scared of non-professional fireworks as there was a major fire to a local house after an errant firework from neighbors setting them off landed on the roof and smoldered for hours.

Not OP, but I was still hearing them in my neighborhood last night. It goes on for days...

LOL - have you been to Times Square? Anyway, I'm obviously NOT too good for it as I've stayed there myself. But I wouldn't really recommend it to most people unless they are looking for a very quiet room.
