It's a national park so it's against the rules but It's fine unless your dogs can't handle the freedom. Sounds like your dogs will be fine. I've been doing it for twenty years and never had a single problem other than reason about problems on this forum.

"Against the rules" but fine, huh? Sounds like it's time to ask the rangers to patrol Rock Creek Park a little more closely.

LOL! There is definitely a code when the rangers are out. It's like the dog whisperer. Believe me, the rangers won't find the dogs. People look out for each other.

Yes, what noble people, looking out for the other law breakers. Honor amongst thieves and all that.

Have you been to Rock Creek? It's huge. Once you are deep in the trails it's very easy to never see another person.

I used to solo hike here on trails with one of my dogs on-leash. After several bad experiences we stopped. With another dog we went as a group and I carried a heavy walking stick.

In our yard I carry a metal baseball bat. Obviously mine are off leash in their yard and so are bad ass strays.

Where the F do you live? Do banjos play as you enter the woods?

High priced neighborhood with a large lot and very convenient to Scott's Run and other NOVA parks mentioned. No banjo's but breeds and mixes that have become popular due to the push to rescue pits. We did have a problem with some other breeds that make the hitlist for no dogs on rental lists. Ever read those lists? Companies will rent to people with a 150 pound newfoundland before they will rent to a 50 pound pitmix....

Honestly, I hike in Rock Creek Park in the trails and all dogs are off leash. It is RARE to see a dog on a leash. Is it "legal" no, but no one cares. I don't allow him off leash on any paved trails though, only in the woods.

If we encounter your dog hiking on any trails or paths, we will pepper spray it. If you want to travel with your dog, that's fine, but it does not mean others want to encounter your animal on our outing.

I'll join you. This same post seems to pop up every 2-3 months. I'm wondering if this is a troll.

Yes, anyone who would pepper spray a random dog is probably a troll. And lives under a bridge somewhere.
