What? I'm curious what you mean by this. I don't think I've ever seen it...

I have no idea what this poster is talking about either...

I don't feel comfortable wearing sandals without painted toenails, but you should rock on with whatever suits your comfort level.

I don't typically wear makeup, and though I would say that I'm impeccably groomed from head to toe I *never* sport painted fingernails. In summer, though, I will occasionally get my toenails painted a very subtle color--like a pearly white or pearly peach.

Either or. So manicured, painted and no chips. Or, manicured and bare. They give different vibes.

Either you made this up or you don't know, or you misunderstand, many of your colleagues.

I saw a young woman this morning with unpainted toes and she looked great. Her feet were pretty to start with but her nails were well groomed. So it's a look that can work if you do it right.

The worst is those ridiculous "French" toe manicures. ICK! I'd rather a natural nail than that any day!

It can't possibly be. How could it happen every time? (Different salons?)

A little googling reveals that, indeed, nail polish can make fungal infections worse.

I've decided I can't wear toenail polish because I always get a nail fungus when I do. I mean, obviously the fungus must always be lurking there, but when I go without nail polish for several months, the flaky nail grows out and smooth nail grows in its place. Every winter, it looks like the fungus is gone; every summer I do pedicures and the fungus grows back. So this summer: no polish. So far, so good.

If your nails look healthy and smooth, I think it's fine. I prefer paint for some polish (no pun intended) and pop, but there's nothing inherently offensive or unfashionable about having plain nails. Agree with PPs that clear nail polish, or at least having your nails buffed, will add a bit of flair to your feet.
