Barnard, VT if you go to Woodstock. Super cute and non-touristy with a lake and a general store and tons of great back roads.

Woodstock VT (the question is about MA NH and VT). Yes you can travel between NY and VT quite easily, there are east-west roads. Perhaps you are worried about Lake Champlain? That's pretty far north. If you want to cross over before then you take 87 to Glens Falls and then take 149 and Rt 4 into VT towards Rutland. Rt 4 goes right to Woodstock. But it really depends where you are driving from.

Woodstock - - you mean Woodstock, NY? Can you travel back-n-forth between NY and VT easily. Are there many bridges?

Yes! Was there on a road trip 2 summers ago and loved it. If in the area, Shelbourne farms is a must-visit.
