+1
I'm addicted to my 70s and 80s satellite radio, but to me they're food for my soul. They make me sing out loud and feel happier. There may be a few songs that make me melancholy, but mostly they lift me up.

On the melancholy front, Forever Young, mentioned above, is definitely one of them. That song reminds me of a boyfriend who died very young and who always holds a special place in my heart.

Oh my gosh, yes. And that song If You Leave. Plus Don't You Forget About Me from The Breakfast Club.

Love these too!

Menopause, OP. Menopause.

Not for nostalgia reasons (although I was a teen in the 80s), but there's something heartbreaking about the melody of "Don't Dream it's Over" by Crowded House. I've always loved that song although it's always made me sad-happy.

Awesome video, pp! I'm 46, loved Split Enz. And Crowded House. Think I had tapes from both of them .

I'm 49. So I have a few years over many of you. But if you're younger, I believe they branched off into Crowded House, which many of you may remember.

to embed youtube, you have to remove the "s" in https for whatever reason. History Never Repeats was my favorite Split Enz song

Spotify has changed my life for this reason. It's like winning the music lottery. I think of a time in my life and can build a soundtrack/playlist for it. Whitney Houston songs make me cry, particularly One Moment in Time.

80s and 90s music does this for me, OP. You're definitely not alone! For some reason, Taylor Dayne's "Heart of Stone" makes me feel really emotional.

I'm 45 and feel very differently. I don't like hearing those songs now. They don't make me feel nostalgic. I must be cold-hearted!! Maybe there was too much teenage angst back then for me to enjoy them now! I feel much more content now.

I was thinking about this today, as I was listening to certain music in honor of my 25th college reunion. I think it has a lot to do with listening to these songs as teenagers and they're talking about so many things yet to come or be experienced. Now you listen to those same songs from the opposite vantage point - most of it is behind you now. Made me kind of sad.

Not crying, but feeling some type of sense of nostalgia, of happy times, carefree (all innocent), when with friends ... this seemed to always play (was a popular choice on the radio, in venues):

For anyone who has lost their dad recently, Mike & The Mechanics' "The Living Years" is brutal.
