I'm amazed by the naivete on display here. If you think none of your coworkers, bosses, colleagues, etc are doing drugs, you're just wrong. Whether they're smoking weed or blowing coke or rolling on E on their trip to Vegas, SOMEONE you know/work with is doing it. Are some of those things more serious or egregious than others? Of course. Smoking a joint once in awhile really isn't that big of a deal. But there are plenty of people who are successful adults, parents even, who don't think it's a big deal to do a line or a bump on a night out once in awhile. And then there are drug addicts, which isn't the same thing. You may not like it or agree with it, but to deny it's happening displays a very narrow and naive world view.

Having a few beers from time to time does not equate to illegal drug use. Sorry, not even the same ballpark in my opinion.

Coke is expensive, it's seriously addictive and it is ILLEGAL.

I'm in sales and it is as pressured as it gets. Alcoholism is for sure prevalent, but coke? No way. I'm sure there are a minority of people who do it, but common? Sorry. No.

A friend's high-earning husband had a long-time cocaine habit that lead to his heart-attack and death at age 44. Wife was out of town visiting relatives and husband was found in bed at home by his 9 year-old son hours after snorting.

My grandfather told me this 30 years ago. Every time I hear one of these "everyone does it" or "I know lots of people who do this" I always look back at his advice.

Op here. Yes that description parroted back probably does sound stupid. And true, unless i see someone snort something, i dont know. But when people discuss it or joke about it, testing to see if anyone has any, then get all giddy and run off, after being around cocaine users in different settings since early college, i don't need to see them do the lines. But I do think about their wives, at home, with their kids, who are definitely not getting a call any time soon. That's all. I knoeba few of these guys and at least one woman. I just would be pissed if my spouse did this.

That sounds like pretty sophomoric behavior for individuals of that level. I find it hard to imagine how a person could be smart enough to head a major corporation but so stupid as to joke openly about serious drug usage in the way you are describing. What a liability for that company.

One of our affluent, country club belonging neighbors died of an overdose a few years back and left behind a wife and 2 young kids in early elementary. Very sad and what a waste...brace yourself OP.
