Subject: Which airline would you fly for international trip?
Cheapest and shortest flight. That said, I've had good experiences with Lufthansa and Air France (and British). Haven't flown Virgin or KLM but have heard good things about them also. None of the ones you named give me pause - just pick one that is affordable and convenient.

Agree. There is no way any of these airlines is that much better than another that it would be work a longer flight, a long connection, etc.

Philadelphia is an easier airport experience than Dulles too - has always been much quieter. When flying to London I much prefer BA or Virgin, service and food is better, but I'd take US Airways to Scotland every time to avoid the connecting flight.
Have you ever departed from Newark, NJ to fly to Edinburgh? Curious since my niece is traveling to Scotland this summer, and that is what she plans to do. Thanks!
