I have many friends with seniors. They are almost always close to tears especially at this time when kids are announcing colleges, etc. So normal! My DCs are 7th and 9th grade and I am already wistful. Where are my cute babies? And everyone said it would pass fast --- but so so fast?

We are all ready for DD to head to college in the fall. I will tear up at graduation but am also happy and excited for her! DH and I are planning a trip in oct to Napa / wine country for DHs 50th and it is helping me mentally looking forward to a great trip! She is our only so we will be empty nesters and I am actually ok with it( in theory ?)

OP, I feel for you. I thought I was sooo ready for my eldest to graduate, go to college. I was bawling at his graduation ceremony, bawling during our ride to his college dorms. DH even accused me of leaving his room as a shrine, completely untouched. Maybe I'll be much easier once my 2nd one graduates.

I have a 10 YO and 7 YO and remember the same thing.

Here's how I cope: I remember how I was to my parents.. how I couldn't WAIT to go to college, move out on my own etc. They handled it with such grace, it now astounds me. I know they were sad, but they never let me see it. It was support, support and more support.

And as a result I think, 30+ years later, we are still close.

Mine does this too. Just turned six. Says he wants to live with us forever and we are the best parents ever. I know that I probably have about 4-5 good years left before he starts to turn into a mutant who won't speak to me and totally changes his mind.


Haha! Mine (7) INSISTS she is going to AU (we live within walking distance) so she can come home for Friday night pizza and movies with us and board games on Saturday nights. We'll see how she feels about that when she's 17!

My only kids are twin sons graduating this year. I can't even look at their little-boy pictures without crying, and I can barely look at other people with their young children. I am happy for them embarking on their adult lives, but I had so much fun with them while raising them, I can't help but mourn those days!
