Think about when I Love Lucy was on tv; back then it was taboo to even say the word "pregnant" on television. Now, of course, it's beyond normal. Same for interracial and gay couples. These people were, at one point, completely marginalized in pop culture and in society. They still face discrimination and judgment, but it's no longer abnormal to see them on tv, and it's no longer startling to see them at the store or park or family reunion or wherever. Over time it has become normalized and acceptance in pop culture is a major part of that.
The more “normalized” it becomes, the more problems our society will have. I hope it never becomes “normal.”
Transgender is NOT normal.
Pregnancy IS normal - it is how we as a species reproduce.
What the hell does pregnancy have to do with anything?

By the time your children are adults, I hope our society will have moved away from hate and intolerance directed at the LGBT community.
Read about Gina Duncan. She is a former college football player who made her transition at about 50. She is an amazing person who works very hard to ensure fair treatment of transgender people - People who are at very high risk of suicide and violent crime. She got married (as a male). Had two children and struggled to live as a male in a "normal life". Except that it wasn't normal. At five years old, Gina knew she was supposed to be female despite appearing male. Can you imagine the pain and confusion?
She wrote an excellent book describing her journey. No, I am not Gina. But I did get to hear her speak a few months ago. I left feeling so inspired by her courage.

A lovely post from her PR rep....

OP, tell ya what. You "teach" your kids whatever you want, realizing of course that you will reap the consequences of that.
I will keep my kids as far away from this story as I possibly can. If it does become a subject of conversation, I will not hesitate to call it exactly what it is: A sick, twisted, deranged attempt at publicity by a self-absorbed has-been who would do anything -- literally -- to stay in the news.
So go find a bucket. No one cares what you tell your children. And that reaping thing you talk about? Get ready.
And yet we're all supposed to care what YOU tell YOUR children? Oh, because you are so much more enlightened than the rest of us.
No, friend. What you are is sadly misinformed.
Where did I post what I was telling my children? That's right. I didn't.

Anonymous wrote:PP, you and others like you can only come up with "hateful" when people disagree with you. Do you insist everyone who doesn't agree with you on everything is "hateful"? Because this is something we see so often with those with more liberal viewpoints. No surprise to me, for that reason.
