Is this real life? I can't believe someone would be so dense to suggest purchasing an animal from a pet store and releasing it into their backyard! I want so badly to believe this is the fake poster.

But yet you are advising to pretend it hatched a plush toy?

Not PP but the plush toy from a glass egg is clearly a game. It's clearly silly. A real animal from an unbroken marble egg is.... Something else.

What about a snake or lizard? DD is 5 and too old for stuffed toys.

She's too old for a stuffed toy but you feel the need to convince her a real animal hatched from a glass egg? Alright then.

Especially baby animals.

Especially animals you can buy from a store, which generally aren't something generic from your backyard, hence the reason for a special store.

You need zoloft

I don't know about her DD but mom is certainly a huge idiot.

Even if you get something native, it will die unless it's designed to live on its own without a pack or pod or flock or school.

Also, animals all have their territories. So for example, that squirrel you see at 4pm in the back isn't just any squirrel, it's probably the same squirrel. You throw another squirrel back there, and the first squirrel will attack it.

This is a huge issue when it comes to trapping live pest animals like bears (also raccoons) and releasing them somewhere else. It's either released in barren territory so it can't survive, or, if the area is good for survival, there's already another bear occupying that territory. Then the formerly trapped bear has to find its way back to its own territory, and to do so, has to go through multiple territories of other bears, getting attacked the whole way. If they manage to survive, they are pretty injured, and are now back at the same spot as they started out. The National Park Service had to learn the hard way about this one. People leave food in their cars, and the bears learned to get into the cars, and for a while the park service was relocating the bears, until they realized how cruel that was.

I agree with PP that if your DD is imagining an animal coming from that egg, she's be fine with a cute stuffed unicorn or dragon, and that would end up being her special pet.

I hope so too...but I've known people like this. When the kid gets older she will probably buy her a dog from a pet store, then dump it at the shelter when it gets to be too much work.

Don’t do anything. Then, you can explain that the egg wasn’t fertilized.
And, that will lead to a discussion about the birds and the bees. Fun times!

If she is too old for a stuffed animal, then she is too old for you to pretend something has hatched from an egg. Omg. What is wrong with you?
