Where exactly is BASIS located?

last year's 5th grade English teacher was awesome. 6th grade Language Arts this year is the only teacher and class that has myself and my avid reader with excellent writing skills exasperated.

And education at BASIS is accelerated ... only. Rushinhg in everything, skip math lessons, finish a book in a few weeks, 5 essay questions to be written in a week.

That has indeed been our experience at Basis, and that's why we moved out our DC after 5th grade. She could solve a math problem set in 20 minutes, but when it came to write a letter to her cousin we realized her writing has stayed at 4th grade level.

That's too bad. I think that BASIS understands that its English program has been weak in the past and is working hard to improve it.

We are very happy with 5th grade English this year. They've read three novels so far and written two to three essays on each. They worked on public speaking and each gave a presentation on some aspect of the Great Depression. They had a unit on poetry, studying about a dozen poems and writing two more essays on poetry. They've also studied a great deal of English grammar all year (maybe 1/3 of their class time) and have several grammar assignments each week and various grammar quizzes and tests.

That has not been our experience at all in the past 3 years at BASIS. Every year over 90% of the math book and problems were completed in our child's math classes there. This unlike what I experienced in all of my schooling and I wager at many schools where not nearly as much material is covered. As for books, if you are referring to novels for english class, I see no reason to spend more than several weeks on a novel. I did not think any books were rushed in my kid's classes. Our kid also has never been assigned 5 essay questions in a week.

That is our experience also. They have been having kids do full math problem sets, as opposed to just doing odds or evens and partial problem sets as I had as a kid.

Mediocre is mediocre, not accelerated....MEDIOCRE

So according to you mediocre is the opposite of accelerated.

You can have accelerated education of mediocre quality.

You can have a high quality education which is not accelerated.

Parsing words and missing the point. Education received at Hardy is MEDIOCRE
