You're more than welcome. I can easily understand how "just adhd" could sound patronizing. I'll be more careful in the future.

I understand completely and wasn't trying to minimize your situation by saying "just ADHD". I have three kids with varying diagnoses. In my experience at the middle school and upper school level, it is very difficult to get an IEP for ADHD alone at FCPS. One child did not receive even a 504. The child with Asperger's (documented as autism on the paperwork) had comorbidities of ADHD and anxiety and did get an IEP but we really had to fight for it. Also, IMH0, boys are more apt to get the IEPs if they have behaviorial problems no matter what the diagnosis. We caught our DD's Asperger's very late because she was such a good student. Four testers missed it. Girls sometimes fly under the radar, which is unfortunate, because she needed earlier intervention.

^^ Did you actually get an IEP "just" for ADHD (no other comorbidities?). In my experience that's unusual. We had an IEP in FCPS but child was on the spectrum, ADHD and anxiety.


Older DC did not get IEP until anxiety diagnosis was added. Younger DC is "just" ADHD, but it is quite severe and no one disagreed it was necessary to have am IEP.

Many people on this forum give a lot of feedback for FCPS and MCPS. I think less so for DC.


Not necessarily...OP, you can search this forum for terms like OSSE. There is some discussion about how a charter school might come to decide, together with the IEP, that they can't serve the kid's needs (this is when they are their own LEA), and if they do, OSSE doesn't put up a fight about paying for private, as long as the IEP can prove they tried everything.

He met the criteria for PDD NOS, though not officially diagnosed w/ autism. He's just now getting evaluated by the school for a possible autism label or not. He was in PAC, so he's had an IEP since he was three.
