I'm with you, second PP. I think salon-done nails are tacky and much prefer well-cared for natural nails. Trim and clean is all you need. Have never understood why people waste so much time and money.

I know, to each her own, but I know people who get a manicure every week or two and a pedicure every month. It adds up to like $1500 a year! It just seems crazy to me, if I'm going to spend that kind of money I want it to be on something I can keep or on something better than colored fingernails. But like I said, some people really like it. I don't understand people who pay for their teenage daughters to get regular manis or pedis.

Never. I didn't even get one when someone gave me a gift certificate once. I actually don't like having my nails painted. It feels weird to me. There is also a question of hygiene. I've known more than one person who has picked up an infection from a nail salon. I had a (male) dentist once who said he brought his own tools to the salon to get a manicure so he didn't have to worry about contamination from the salon tools. So I guess that's an option.

Zero. As in never. I keep my finger nails and toe nails short and never polish them. I buff my own crusty soles too.

Another European here, and I think it is. I've had my first and only pedicure when I was in grad school in California, and I thought it wasn't worth the money (can do a better job myself). I also find nail polish on my fingernails pointless because I have to wash my hands too much due to my work and it wouldn't last a day.



I lived as an expat in various parts of Asia and its quite popular there too (SEA and China are my actual experiences)

I get maybe 5 pedis a year? I treat it as just something I like to do to relax and I love my little place. Its not that serious.

I've had a couple manicures but find them to be a waste. I do get pedicures at the beginning of every summer season. It lasts awhile so I just need the second pedicure around July 4th.

A bit off topic, but to those of you who have aging parents and loved ones---There comes a point when they have difficulties reaching their feet to trim the nails. Offer a pedi as a gift!

Like cleaning my home, I personally feel that no one but me can do as good of a job as me at trimming, filing + polishing my own nails.

I am very meticulous, I admit.

However, I like the idea of getting your lower leg/foot massaged during a pedicure. So one day, I just may splurge and get it done.

#468 on my bucket list.

I don't mean acrylic or fake nails, just the act of a pedicure or manicure. Washing the hands or feet, scrubbing of dead skin and pushing the cuticles back.

I didn't get fake nails put on, but they did get painted.

My MIL is 67 and never had either- I always offer to treat her to one when she visits, she says she has no interest. She's very, very not into appearances.

I think my first mani/ pedi was in college- I didn't even bother DIY until maybe 17 or so anyway.

pointless to spend money on it, but I've had a few for fun. I don't understand why women spend money on manicures every week. especially those atrocious looking gel ones. they look trashy. it takes as much time to do it at home as in the salon and the salons that don't charge $100 for a pedicure aren't a pleasure to spend half an hour at.

Nope. Not weird. I don't like it either! I'm 52 and have only had one mani for a wedding when I was a bridesmaid. Bride thought it would be fun for us. What a waste - it didn't even last thru the wedding.
