My child is another example. She is in 2nd grade reading on a 6th grade level and has been at CMI since PK. She is also advanced in math. She loves going to school and is thriving. We could easily afford private and chose CMI. We will do private for MS and HS.

I disagree and I have first hand knowledge as my child is there. They teach in groups and he gets extra work.

I'm thinking you don't have any first-hand experience with Maret

We had a similar choice for preschool. We chose a language immersion charter over a top tier private but we got into both and would not have gotten any financial aid.

No regrets. It's elementary school and DS is bilingual in upper elementary. We also saved a LOT of $$$. We are at a DCI feeder but will be sending DS to private schools for middle and high schools. We also really wanted the immersion language and our charter was the only public school we applied to since there was no common lottery at the time we applied.

Creative Minds seems like a good alternative for elementary. Then you can try private for middle or high school or at that point just move. Maybe you could call like a charter version of Maret? So no bells and whistles but gets the job done....

for preschool thru K only! this charter is not even close to the quality education you'll get at a the category 3 privates you mentioned. they have NO solid reputation, no evidence, just these posts. We left cmi for private. cmi was no better than the neighborhood public in terms of the actual education. just the demographics, which just tell what's on the outside, NOT on the inside. Beware, it's too new to actually be good yet or to even compare to a private like the one you're at and the teachers are very inexperienced.

No. CM moght be promising, but I don't think is a consolidated option.

The problem with any public, no matter how good, is the common core curriculum and related PARCC assessment. If you are okay with that, then by all means Creative Minds is as good as any big three private (minus the social access).

Good Lord OP! Are you crazy?!?! I'm sure Creative Minds is fine, but it's certainly not anywhere near as good as a private school.

There is no charter that would make us leave private, but it would be different if private was a financial strain. What are you going to do for high school? Even the best charters don't have very good or proven high schools.
