This, from The Washington Post...

Winer credited the math, science and computer science magnet program at Montgomery Blair as a difference-maker, too, as well as teacher James R. Schafer, whom he called “one of the best teachers in the universe.”

Well, if arguably the most brilliant kid in Montgomery County believes he is well served by the teachers at Blair, safe to say the other magnet kids are as well.

Really?? http://connectedcommunities.us/showthread.php?t=67272

Lets not get carried away. This was a kid who go help outside Blair in Physics. The Intel award reflects that and only that.
I know because I am a teacher.

I don't understand your point. The article made it clear that he worked with a UMD physics professor. But the parents and Michael all commented on how he thrived at Blair. Why cannot it be both?

I don't want to lose my job by explaining. Show me what physics (that's his subject, right?) courses are taught at Blair that would have this kids research.

He thrived at Blair and would have thrived anywhere.

You know more about it than he does? Wow.

No way! Who knows more about the Blair magnet program -- the Intel science winner or the DCUM Blair troll?

Congratulations to Michael Hofmann Winer!

and the # reason why they have veteran teachers there? the parents, not the way you would think but because the parents at the up county schools and silver spring schools don't have to deal with the parents in the W schools who are a huge pain in the ............

They would rather teach in a more diverse school with less parent involvement than one with more involvement

Never read more nonsense!!! Nearly all veteran magnet teachers retired/left.

Speaking of "W" schools, they retain teacher as long as or longer than DCC and NEC schools. Just sayn'.

Really ask a few, I know I have seeing I am one of them.

Wal.. retired
Dov.. retired
Don.. retired

And yet Blair is still winning the Intel awards. Perhaps a younger teacher with a fresh education and mindset, with more energy and time to give to the students, is not an entirely bad thing?

Or, Blair has nothing to do with students winning Intel?

+1. And right now someone at Blair will be taking a selfie with the poor kid and tweeting it before the day is over.

Whatever. One thing I know for sure is I don't want a "teacher" who writes like you teaching my kid, unless you're teaching home ec or pottery.
