We had a bad storm and I knew he was away, I shoveled his driveway and steps because who wants to come home to 15" of rock hard drifted snow.

One day after his return he pounds on my door at 7am, stares right at me and asks if I shoveled for him. Upon hearing my response he shoves a bag of weed in my hand and tells his girlfriend "show him"; she lifts her shirt and shows me her breasts.
Best thank you ever.

That is a great story. Nice titties?

Actually, it's a really creepy story about male ownership of a woman's body, but hey, you do you.

My DH has shoveled elderly neighbors driveways and doesn't expect a thing. Our older neighbor recently got a snow blower and did our driveway before we got out to shovel. I saw him finishing up and ran out and thanked him and gave him a hug (I'm a huggy person, I forget that other people arent) and he blushed and had a huge grin on his face. I hope the hug was enough thanks

Neighbors try to pay my teenage son but I taught him not to accept their offers.

FWIW, I tip everyone except for the lady at the cleaners. I don't mind.

DH cleared next-door neighbor's driveway today. Nothing expected in return.

OP, if you felt like you needed to do something, cookies are always welcome. But not expected.

Cookies. This is what I did and they were so appreciated by the neighbor.

Agree.

I'm surprised nobody said you should offer to tip him (which seems to be a common mentality around here).

My Italian blood dictates that I say "thank you" or "thinking about you" with food, usually too much food.

I am powerless against this compulsion.

My Irish heritage (or at least the influence of my Irish Grandmother) dictates this too. Interestingly, the recipe for lasagna (complete with homemade sauce) she learned from an Italian neighbor is always the "go to" thank you meal!
