I'm a single mom to 3(!!!) kids. I met my fiance at a bar at a girlfriend's going away party. I did the online dating thing and it didn't work for me, so I just gave up looking. Anyway, we met, hit it off, went out a couple times, yada yada yada. But, he initially told me that he preferred dating single moms. He saw my eyes get big, and added it was because he had a child and he didn't like having to deal with people who weren't understanding of the situation. Point being, not everyone who wants to date someone with kids is a sicko, and I'd think a pedophile or weirdo wouldn't make a point of telling someone they want to date someone with kids if their intent was suspect.

OP has an incredibly genuine, and quite frankly commendable, reason to want to date a single mom, and sounds like he'd be gold to a lot of divorced women who haven't found a lot of dating luck with understanding men.

I was a 38 year old single mother -- I have joint custody, but my ex has the kids for one weeknight (not overnight) and EOW.

I had very little free time after working and attending to all of my kids' needs and activities. I met my BF, a great, single father who has 50% custody, online. He thinks I'm a catch, and I feel the same about him. Divorce was an unfortunate thing that we've both been through. I chose badly and his ex cheated. I made a mistake, but my kids are great and I have a wonderful family and lots of friends. I beat myself up plenty over my poor choice of partner...but what good would it do to keep that up. I certainly want to show my kids a good example, and thinking that little of myself would not do that.

I did not meet many single men in my every day life. I'm generally at work or with my kids. I am not hanging out in bars or a trailer park.

OP, you can try online, or let your friends and family know you're looking to date more. Cast a wide net and keep an open mind. You may meet someone -- especially someone on the younger end of your age range -- who would be open to adoption (if you are too). I have a couple friends in childless marriages. Not sure about the reasons for their decisions, but they have each been married 10+ years. And the single mothers are another option too. If you are looking to step into the role of parent, that might be complicated as not every single mother is looking for a father for her kid. My kids have a father and my BF is a trusted male role model. Every situation is different.

Online. Single moms do a lot of online dating. If you take one out, make sure that you take into consideration that she will have to hire or find a sitter. If you like her, offer to help pay for the sitter on subsequent dates (not necessary, but a wonderful gesture).
