Nothing, but after I had my baby at my 6wk check the nurse asked if I was exclusively breastfeeding and I broke down in tears because I’d been trying so hard, but it hadn’t been working, and I was doing about 50-50 at that point. She looked alarmed and said “oh no i don’t actually care girl, your baby is gonna be fine either way, I’m only asking because we have all these formula samples and no one ever wants them!” And she sent me home with an entire palate of Enfamil samples because she felt bad. It was very sweet.

Doesn’t really make sense imho to have an ob office give out formula samples. I was under the impression that many babies needed certain calories etc that peds could help determine.

I think I trashed it all anyway. I definitely would have trashed/donated a goody bag with junk in it

I've gotten the plastic bag with a parenting magazine, a bottle, and a bunch of prenatals, as well as coupons and paper junk that went in the garbage. The concept annoys me - I don't need advertising in my doctor's office.

With DC1 OB gave me a 'goodie bag' that had all their important info for pregnancy and identifying labor as well as a plethora of samples, coupons, leaflets and some promotional swag like a branded pregnancy journal. I donated the bottles, pacifiers and formula. I kept the coupons and used the ones for baby stores (there were also 2 'what to register for catalogs). I think the practice gave our name to a formula company though as we started getting formula samples in the mail, I wasn't a fan. The weirdest thing though was that the day we came home from the hospital, a Sunday, the formula company had someone deliver a box of formula to our door. Donated it.

Our pediatrician gave us a copy of 'what to expect the first year,' when I toured the practice before DS was born. Love our pediatrician practice.

Now for DC2 I had the first few appointments at the same practice that delivered DC1. At the end of my first prenatal appt I asked if there was a pregnancy pack (I wanted coupons) and they handed me three pieces of paper stapled together with important phone numbers etc. big change with #2. When I switched practices there was no swag bag either just a folder with info on available screenings etc. Recently they had a third trimester bag from a formula company sitting at the check-out counter. I took one just to have some formula on hand, and as the receptionist said, the bag will make a good toiletry bag for the hospital.

Right? The companies have you thinking that advertisements are "goodies"? My practice did none of this; they gave me some damples of prenatal vitamins at the beginning, but were really frank that OTC were just fine.

This is so interesting...I got the most "goodies" (samples, magazine, etc.) with my first child at a practice in NOVA that prescribed an expensive prenatal and didn't mention it's the same as OTC. Another practice gave some prenatal samples. I recently changed and current office gave a folder with important info.

I didn't get anything, but I purposefully signed up for the formula samples - and gave all of them to charity. Turns out, my baby needed formula later....but I'm perfectly happy to get the coupons and whatnot for it if I know other women can use it.

And my OB's office/peds office didn't/doesn't give away formula. I wish they would! I ask for coupons, though. It's like "SHAME HER! She gives her baby formula!" (even though he was EBF'd for 6 mo)

Nothing except a 4 or 5 pages of discharge instructions. And I'm glad, too. Not a fan of extra stuff.

Nothing at all this time. Last time I got a plastic bag with coupons and fliers. And nothing from INOVA Alexandria when I delivered, even though on the tour they had said you would get a tote and such. I was a little bummed not to get the bottle cooler, it would have come in handy.

Nothing from OB or hospital.
