I was a total slacker last year, but then one option that DS really wanted was full, so I felt bad. So, I'm back to having our summer planned by the end of January.

I like it though. I feel like it's fun planning with the kids since you end up talking about the year (plans/activities/goals).

And, not only do you save a lot of money with early-bird discounts, cheaper plane fare, you have something to look forward to. Especially with this snow. It also makes you feel accomplished early in the year.
