I am NOT a Lady Gaga fan by any stretch and I thing she is remarkably unattractive for a pop-star HOWEVER she did an absolutely amazing job with this medley. I thought it was very obvious that it was live, no lip-synced. There were several audible clues and she was breathless at the end. Listen to her announce Julia Andrews again, you can tell even though she does a nice job of covering it.

She did an AMAZING job, and I hate a lot of popular singers voices. She kicked butt, much better than say, Idina Menzel.

I wondered about this too bc if it was a live performance she would've been majorly out of breath especially for singing that long and the higher notes, crescendos, and various tempos which really require a lot of voice and diaphragm control.

When she was done singing, she was hardly panting. Seemed strange.

I got teary-eyed. It's the movie my mom and I watched every Fall on TV when they played it--long before cable.

It was her first date (going to see Sound of Music) with my dad back in 1965.

I always sang those songs to my boys when they were babies.

I thought she did a great job.

I loved it at the end when Julie Andrews came out and they hugged. You could really tell that it meant a lot to Lady Gaga, and Julie Andrews seemed genuinely touched and pleased. Loved it!

For the record, I love me crazy Lady Gaga too. And jazz singing with Tony Bennett Gaga. I think it awesome that she can shine in so many different genres, and I can enjoy and appreciate her in all of them.

i'm so glad to hear that she's so aware. take note indeed! not just madonna but there are quite a few pop stars and notable r&b ones who are trying to keep up w/kids who don't give a damn about them. looking at you mariah. i would put mary j. in that category too but it seems like she's doing something more age appropriate w/her london sessions.

Did anyone ever see that SNL skit with the supposed aged Lady Gaga reminiscing about her hits with the pizza delivery guy (who'd never heard of her)? It was pretty hilarious. Foreshadowing perhaps?

She did a "Sunday Morning" interview recently with Tony Bennett that really made me change my mind about her. She basically said that her time as a pop mega-superstar is probably over and that that was very humbling, so she made sure she could move in another direction.

Really? I would say its because she is a damn fantastic singer! I'm no little monster by any means but I've known for some time that she's more than a walking meat dress. Its nice to see her play it straight as everyone is saying but it probably proves a point to her. People if you can look beyond the gimmicks and her alter egos she's an amazing talent.

Wikipedia doesn't mention Julliard or classical vocal training, but does say that she studied piano from age four, and did musical theater at NYU.

I give her credit. It is sooooo risky to try to replicate such an iconic song. Nevertheless the Academy wanted to pay tribute to Julie Andrews and the Sound of Music. Lady G. took on the challenge and did a pretty good job. She didn't replicate the original, but tributes seldom do.

I give Lady G. credit for her effort and her performance!
