This is a liability issue. It was absolutely the party hosts job to call you if she wasn't going to pay. In fact maybe you should scare her and tell her you are getting a lawyer and sueing her ass. It's probably not worth it to go through with it but maybe it will scare her enough to never ever do something so stupid again. She put your child in danger. He could have been kidnapped.

This is just so strange. Did the mom say it was pay your own way when inviting the kids? I cannot imagine.

How did you even know to send money to cover the ticket? I never would have thought to send anything beyond some petty cash in case he needed it.

This is the craziest party story I've ever heard. You don't invite kids to a movie birthday party and then expect them to pay their own way. That's not a party. The mother absolutely should have made up the shortfall. If she's in dire financial straits and didn't have the few extra bucks, she should have at least called you.

That's the last time my child would ever be left in that parent's care. And I'd let her how irresponsible she was and that your child won't be attending any future b-day party she "hosts." And I say hosts loosely, because hosting a party entails paying for the activity.

He could have very possibly spent the money on anything. I admit it was dumb to give him the money but he is eight. If she felt like she didn't want to give him extra for the ticket I should have been contacted.
