Subject: Name:Sarah called Sally?
Why not just name her Sally? I think it's quite a stretch to say that's the nickname for Sarah.

Yes, just like Ned is a nickname for Edward. Supposedly from "mine Ann/mine Ed" to "my Nan/my Ned".
That doesn't explain Hal as a nickname for Henry, though. Or Sally as a nickname for Sarah. Nonetheless, they are nicknames.
The one that has always stumped me is "Peggy" for Margaret.
My sister's name is Christina and everyone has always called her Nina - few people of our generation even know that Nina is a nickname for Christina.

Yes I did the same. I also struggled like hell to shed a cutesy nickname.
Sally is not a cutesy nickname. IMO.
It works for me as a full-blown professional adult.

My Aunt Sally is officially a Sarah. She named her daughter Sarah (called Sarah) too, which I thouht was pretty badass.
