OP, it's OK to not participate in mud runs. But I think the mud runs are a red herring, and I think you know it too.

The real issue is that you dislike this woman, you resent what you perceive as her commandeering of your social circle, and you find her annoying and domineering and butch and what have you. That's OK too - we all like who we like.

But before you find yourself excluded, just be careful that you aren't "thinking really loud," as a friend of mine once put it when I was scowling at someone. If your other friends like this woman while you're there stewing about how unattractive you think she is personally and physically, and how much you resent her, it will be obvious to others and could make you look bad.

This too shall pass. I doubt every friend you have will suddenly become an obsessive mud runner. Just smile and wait it out and make sure you aren't broadcasting your feelings.

OP are you in the DC area? Or at least in a major city? I mean are you writing this from inside of a cult compound? Because how does a grown ass woman not just say--"look, I don't do mud" or words to that effect? And if this is all they talk about, why on earth are they your friends if you don't share this interest? Time for you to move on and find friends who like to do the same things. Join a Meet UP group. Do you like cycling? There are some great Meet Up cycling groups in major cities.

Let me start by saying plenty of straight women are into mudding… But, the subtext here is that a large charismatic lesbian has taken over OP's little group. This frightens the OP who is delicate and prefers prancing and is maybe struggling with her bi-curious feelings about her friend and this group. I say this because COME ON. What. OP's group of GF were just going along to flower-arranging classes and having lunch until this large butch shows up and takes them all mudding? This is a group of strong women, some of them probably bi and OP needs to get over her sexual insecurities or find some Anita Bryant support group in her area.

I have never shown contempt for my friends. Not everyone is physically able to compete in a muddy obstacle course and not every one wants to.

PP here. You've missed my point. No one is forcing you to run and injure yourself. But you can be more supportive. You can cheer on the sidelines. You can take photos and be proud of your friends who have found a new activity they like. Read your original post again and if you don't see the contempt, then by all means, carry on and lose your friends. Think about the people more than the activity.
