Conservative Christians do it to themselves. Look at the treatment your own church "family" gives you for not falling in line.

OP if you are bound and determined to be miserable then no one can help you. In almost all of your responses you've said something that makes your situation sound quite hopeless. It's not. Therapy will help give you another perspective. Make that a priority.

We vaccinate, except the flu shot. I don't understand how anyone would know if we did or didn't though.

As far as my religion, I was raised Episcopalian, but am too conservative for it. I don't actually even tell people why I left anymore, because they hate me. It turns out I'm too liberal for more conservative churches, though (the working and having kids pretty late part). (Currently attending a Baptist one)

You know what, OP? I'm a bonafide weirdo. I come from a strange family and had an offbeat upbringing. I parent differently than anyone I know. Much of my life seems contradictory from the outside. My interests aren't the norm.

But, guess what? I am genuinely interested in other people. I love talking to the people I meet at bus stops. I say hello to people in my neighborhood. I always show interest in the barista's day, the lady ringing me up at CVS, etc.

In your examples, it's others asking you questions. Have you initiated conversations? Asked about someone's day? Complimented anyone?

I honestly think people are accepting of me because they see that my oddity isn't put on and my interest in them is authentic.

When you're depressed it's easy to get stuck inside yourself. Reach out! It may not be your natural response, but please do give it a try.

Some good advice from above, so here is another angle:
Just decide you ARE odd/weird, whatever, and let your freak flag fly!
The trick is to make yourself be approachable in your weirdness, so you get friendly curiosity rather than critique (which sounds like it's coming from their insecurity, maybe because you're from the big city)

Focus on them…focus on positive things about them that you can comment on: their hair, their kid, their brand of Huggies…ask them about it, get the focus off yourself and on to them in a friendly, non-judgy way.

I'm pretty shy and an older woman who has tons of friends etc taught me this. It's true; when I talk with her I always end up talking about myself; she is so good at getting people to talk! But the trick is, she's really interested in them. My mom is the same way. Find what's interesting about someone else and focus on that.
