Yeah, but as they get older and realize they're going to die alone without leaving any sort of legacy or family, the serenity gives way to sheer panic and depression.
I thought so too but studies show the opposite is true.
So, asking as a serious question: why would you think that people whose life choices and values are different from yours will necessarily face "sheer panic and depression"? Every life has its choices, its tradeoffs, its surprises and disappointments. Can you really not imagine that someone might grow older without facing a calamitous mental state, if they didn't shoot babies out their hoo ha and then have a lifetime of worrying about what is to become of those babies?
