For STEM, UMD hands down. UMBC is a good school, but UMDCP is better.

The big ten has 5 in the top 20 highest SAT scores publics.

The ACC and Pac 12 have only 2 each.

UMBC has been ranked as the country's up and coming univeristy and among the most innovative, as well as best undergraduate teaching, which are all rankings that UMCP does NOT have. Umbc has achieved all of this in just 50 years, so it makes all these college park fan boys feel insecure because they know they're about to be blown out of the water by umbc in the next two decades. UMCP is a good school, but to all the people who can barely afford to go there and drive 1+ hours to class everyday, and stressed out, they'll realize it wasn't worth it when a bunch of their classmates in med school will be from umbc.

This thread is extremely laughable. All these UMCP fan boys acting like they go to Harvard or Yale, when they go to College Park, which is located in the ghetto and home to old and unrenovated buildings. UMCP was certainly not ranked as high UMBC is now back when it was UMBC's age. In fact, it's reputation when it was 50 years old was akin to the reputation of schools like Frostburg and Salisbury. UMBC and UMCP are quite on par academically, and UMBC actually sends more students to top med school and grad school programs than UMCP does. What's even more laughable is that the OP put Johns Hopkins and UMCP in the same sentence, as if they are an thing alike. Please, UMBC is much more similar to UMBC than it is to Johns Hopkins, stop being such a wannabe. We all know all the UMBC haters couldn't afford Schools out of state or got rejected from Penn State, so they take their frustration out on UMBC. UMBC was ranked as the country

UMBC is a great school. DD was accepted into their STEM program but choose an OOS school instead. She thought it was too boring after visiting several times. She's not nerdy and wanted the big school spirit football games etc. I tried to persuade her to accept but I know she would be unhappy especially after 4 years at a pressure cooker HS.

I am currently at UMBC and in Biochem. I'm transferring after my first year here to UMD. I live closer to UMD and rn am living off campus for UMBC. Besides that I believe it is Bs to have your GPA torn up by UMBC bc 1st off its not even a highly held school if compared to UMD and that UMD has several programs(Med school being a notable one) that are much more promising for students. Don't get me wrong I have a 4.0 at the moment here but why kill yourself for a School that isn't even the top 2 Univerisities in MD(Hopkins/UMD). UMBC just increase the difficulty to higher levels in thinking that by doing so they will be able to rival the other two.
