Kids at SSSAS are from ME (over the bridge), Arlington and close-in Fairfax counties, and DC. Huge contingent from Alexandria, of course.

Why would you go all the way out to Oakton from NWDC for school?

We are in Fairfax County - great public schools (I think, no experience yet) but considering SSSAS and Flint Hill for elementary mostly because we're hoping the smaller class sizes will help provide a more solid foundation before possibly moving into public secondary school.

People are willing to do a commute, but it is mostly from farther out. There are not many Asians at FH, although it is diverse. I think TJ is a much more academic school, and also has many more Asians. But that is comparing apples to oranges since TJ is a public magnet school.

K is probably pretty similar at both schools. I'd save my money and do public elementary. Both with good grades grades and test scores are not that hard to get into at middle school entry years. Though given APS middle school, SSSAS may be a little more difficult than FHS to gain admission.

We are considering both schools for kindergarten. SSSAS has impressed us more but not sure if maybe they just do a better job of marketing the school. FHS is a bit closer /easier commute but not so much so as to be the deciding factor. Does anyone have recent experience with either of these lower schools and could provide further insights?
