Some people really do look young for their age and some people have always looked older than their ages. Not sure why some people get all hysterical about it. A lot of it is facial structure, weights, hair, clothes, etc. and a lot of it is attitude. I always looked younger than my age because I had a baby face (full cheeks); I don't look decades younger, but people are routinely surprised if I tell them how old my kids are or reveal my actual age. I honestly don't like to say how old I am because I think it turns off some of my younger friends.

I had one of those baby faces until I was about 24-25. That's different from "looking good for my age" that's looking genuinely young/kid like. I'm 34 now and supervise a group of graduate students who are 23-27 some guess that I am about 33-35, some are so clueless and think I am just 2 years older than them (25-28, hahaha) because they don't know better. I am carrying an extra 10 pounds since the baby and everyone keeps commenting how I look younger than before the baby, how is that possible if I don't sleep,etc? Um, duh, I'm fatter. Face is fuller. Not a good look, but looks more babyfaced again I guess.

I don't know anyone who has that truly baby face look past maybe 30? Most people outgrow it by college!

34. I looked younger before in a round faced with a sprinkling of acne sort of way. People would make comments at work like did you just graduate? and in the neighborhood like where do you go to school?. Now I'm starting to get wrinkles and grey hair. Having a kid has caught up with me.

+1000. I was 35 with my first, and it was all downhill from there. The tired eyes, dull-ish skin and thinning hair (seriously, wtf happened to my hair?!). I managed to bounce back pretty well weight-wise, but my face just doesn't look as youthful as it did pre-baby.

When I look around at people my age (38), I think we all look younger than what I thought 38 looked like when I was in my 20's. So in that sense, you are probably right. Moreover, most women who have greys at this age cover them and are, in general, successful at maintaining a youthful appearance. That said, some people just look younger than others their age. Looking at my peers, some may dress older or have more sun damage than me, which makes me look younger.

Right around 40.
I looked essentially the same from 30 to 40 and then, bamm. I aged. My hair and skin just aren't the same.
However, when I'm around people OLDER than me they still say things about how I look young. I think older people will always do this--even ones who are just a few years older than me. The fellow moms at school who are in their mid to late 40's have recently told me things like "you can't me more than 36 or 37, right?"
I take it with a giant grain of salt. I'm sure the 25 year olds at my office think I look every bit my age of 40.

I still look young for my age, but now that I'm old---even that 'younger' age is old. I'm 45 and get mistaken for late 30s.

I looked like a teenager until I had kids at 31 (seriously, I was carded and refused entry to an R rated movie when I was 29). The having of the kids really took a toll, but I still looked younger than my age. Since I hit 40, I've really started looking my age. Youthful, but clearly in my 40's. Im 44 now.

I agree. I see a lot of variability in how people of the same age look, a lot of it (to me, at least) in terms of how well their skin has held up. Makes a huge difference. I mean, I know 35 year olds whose skin alone makes them look more like 45 or 50, and 45 year olds who look more like early 30s.

My mother has always looked considerably younger than her true age. At this point, most people assume a youthful 60 while her true age is 70. She's healthy,active, great skin, her hair is still naturally brown with just a sprinkling of grey. I think it's just heredity, since her four brothers and sisters also look very young for their ages. Unfortunately, I take after my father.

33 I think. I started looking my age around then. Two kids and a lot of family drama (less sleep and a lot more stress).

I'm almost 37 and think my looks went downhill after I had my baby at 35, but maybe they would have nose dived at that age regardless?

I won't caveat this by saying I'm not bragging, because I am: at my husbands 15 year hs reunion his (female) classmate was reminiscing about high school in the 90s and said to me "not that you know anything about that - you were probably in elementary school" and was shocked when DH told her I was their age. Similar situations happened at work and even DHs parents wondered if I wasn't too young for him when we started dating. Alas all good things must come to an end. For me, I think it's aging hair and neck as well as a few extra loose and frumpy pounds that give it away.

I and the PP and I should say that *I* don't think I look that young. I just get comments all the time. And I still hate my chubby cheeks and oily skin. I also fear my chubby cheeks will turn into jowls in the near future.
