Tipping is for servers who earn $2.35 an hour. The people who fix your food earn more than minimum wage.

Also, you need to improve your roster of go-to restaurants. Those places you listed are all disgusting.

PP, first you tried to come across as rooting for the underdog, champion for the people making less money, yet in the next statement, you are berating the p(pp) for her choice of chain restaurants. I think you are as much of a jerk as her husband who does not tip.

I don't care what you think. She still has bad taste in restaurants. I'm guessing you share those tastes.

I have to agree. You are eating shitty food. Who in their right minds would eat at TGI Friday's?

Named chains as an example to differentiate between typical carry-out restaurants -for example little cesars vs CPK...

I tip generously in many many places. But I have never tipped at a place I pay at the cashier for carryout. All they do is bag food and ring it up. I just got pizza at ledos. The guy moved the pizza boxes four feet from the kitchen.

Exactly. I tip for the service when I eat in. I don't think that swiping my credit card and handing me a bag of food constitutes service.

Completely agree!

I tip 20% at sitdown.
About 10% for delivery guy (assuming family size order -- otherwise minimum of 5 bucks for his trouble)
0% for carry out.

Why? Gotta draw the line somewhere. The culture is out of control (as much as I think the min wage in restaurants should be higher)

Also, tipping 10% or whatever on a takeout tab feels weird -- like you don't know the standard is 15% and then the guy tallying the credit card receipts at the end of the night sees 10% and assumes you were the cheapo. Whereas if he sees 0 he knows it was takeout.

I tip if it's a restaurant. When I waited tables, carryout was the bane of my existence. You're trying to deal with your tables and all of the sudden you have this to-go order to deal with. Argh. You're taxed on a percentage if it, and it goes into your night's sales so you have to "tip out" on it (to the batrender, food runners, bussers, etc). This isn't how it's handled at all restaurants. Some have the hostess do to-go orders, or they might even have a dedicated to-go person. But the average restaurant makes servers/bartenders do it so they can only pay $2.55 an hour yet still make money on carryout.

None on carryout. 10% on delivery.

0% for take out. For those of you who do tip, do you just tip at restaurants or do you tip @ the food court as well. Where exactly do you draw the line.

0 to $2 depending on how much hassle it is to pack up. Zero at McD's $2 at the local texmex place that individually wraps up the different ordered items and puts them in boxes etc.
